Was bleibt (What Remains) is Judith Schwinn’s first individual show at KUTTNER SIEBERT Galerie, and presents the close interplay of drawings and objects in her work. The almost seismographic feel of the drawings reveals her quite concentrated and cautious approach to a motif that slowly takes shape. The hand engaged in carrying out this process seems to want to express a scarcely perceptible inner unrest in legible form. But the motif remains unclear: on some sheets more clearly linked to the world of objects, on others abstract to the limit of objectlessness. But this limit is rarely transgressed. Instead, Judith Schwinn plays with this limit, plumbing this state of transition on a thematic and formal level. Her joy of experimentation leads her again and again to new possibilities of treating and combining material. This becomes clear in the objects, which, using found materials from the most varied contexts, describe fragile and highly delicate forms and in their very sensitivity express the critical point of transition between representation and abstraction. Judith Schwinn’s works are both material and theme, content and form at the same time. Was bleibt is intended as both internal monologue and constant self-examination.
