The four approaches appear to be based on different intentions. The artists' works are evidence of a type of painting that, while compelled by conceptual austerity, are, ultimately, an image of their own selves. Rather than following an overall theme, the choice of works reflects the idea that the comparison of the broad range reveals an artistic strategy, that produces highly intense works of art by reducing the creative means to a minimum.
