STEFAN SEHLER
"NEW PAINTINGS"
Opening Reception: Friday,
18 January, 2008, 7pm
Duration: 19 January through 1 March, 2008
Opening Hours: Tue-Sat 12-7 pm
On first glance, the work of Stefan Sehler
looks like photography. Yet his complex arrangements of natural
motifs are pure painting. His work is characterized by a balance
between concrete representation and abstract painting; the paint
is applied flowingly within the outlines of a fixed shape on
the back of a plane of acrylic glass. Stefan Sehler composes
his works from individual elements, thus creating models of what
is represented and projection surfaces for terms like “beauty, idyll, or romanticism,” as
the artist puts it.
Works by Stefan Sehler can be seen in
the exhibition “Idylle:
Traum und Trugschluss”, which, after stops at Sammlung Falckenberg
and DA2 in Salamanca, is currently being shown at Städtische
Galerie Remscheid. In addition, Musée d‘Art Contemporain
Marseille is now showing a selection of his work.
